Chemviron
Project:
Activated Carbon Facility Expansion
Role:
Principal Contractor
Chemviron a leading activated carbon manufacturer appointed Hunter Safety as Principal Contractor for a major expansion project at their UK site. The scope of works included the installation of a new Effluent Treatment Plant and Gas Treatment Plant, both located external to the main factory, alongside the installation of a new furnace within a live operational environment. To support project logistics and site operations, a new car park was also constructed.
This complex project required careful planning and coordination to ensure that construction activities were delivered safely and efficiently, without disruption to the live plant operations.
Hunter Safety provided a dedicated HSE Manager to oversee and coordinate all safety arrangements during the construction phase, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations (2015) and supporting the client in discharging their Principal Contractor duties. This included reviewing and approving Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), implementing and monitoring the Permit to Work system, and ensuring all contractors worked strictly within agreed method statements and permits.
The HSE Manager also assessed the suitability of induction processes, emergency procedures, and accident reporting arrangements, making recommendations for improvement where necessary. They provided ongoing advice to the project team based on health and safety legislation and industry best practice, while continually engaging with and educating contractors to maintain high safety standards across site operations.
Daily inspections, audits, and monitoring were carried out to ensure compliance with CDM regulations and site rules. Regular liaison with the client, project team, and on-site management ensured seamless communication and coordination, while Hunter worked to encourage and embed a positive health and safety culture across the workforce. A daily report and handover process was maintained throughout the project, supported by additional input from Hunter’s central team when required.
Through a combination of proactive health and safety leadership, close collaboration with stakeholders, and robust monitoring processes, Hunter successfully supported the delivery of this high-risk expansion project within a live operational environment. The project was completed safely and efficiently, reinforcing Hunter’s reputation as a trusted partner for delivering complex industrial projects under the most challenging conditions.
